The Prince George’s County Police Department is hiring multiple permanent part-time School Crossing Guards for the 2026/2027 school year. This specialized public-safety work involves helping school children and other pedestrians cross safely and controlling traffic at designated crossings. The role is intended to prevent accidents and protect the public. Crossing Guards do not have arrest authority but may perform traffic-control operations to support safe vehicle and pedestrian movement. Employees wear an issued uniform and must be able to stand, walk, and use arm and hand signals, whistles, and their voice. The position requires working both morning and afternoon shifts, Monday through Friday, during the scheduled hours of 7:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.–5:00 p.m. Hours are not negotiable. Guards may be assigned to any location in Prince George’s County, regardless of where they live, and must accommodate schedule changes related to late arrivals, early dismissals, and inclement weather. Reliable transportation is required for orientation, training, and work assignments. This is an essential public-safety position. Employees must report during emergencies, inclement weather, and other situations when administrative leave may be granted, unless directed otherwise. Operational needs may also require work during evenings, weekends, holidays, and other non-standard hours. Employees must attend scheduled monthly meetings and mandatory annual in-service training.
