About The Position

The Scholarship Tutor works in the High School University (HSU) program, which gives high school students in the Pittsburgh region opportunities to earn free college credits, participate in work-related experiences, and receive college and career readiness support. The program addresses systemic barriers faced by low-income students seeking college-level courses and career-related experiences while in high school. Under the supervision of the Social Worker, College and Career Readiness, the tutor works with social workers and the Program Coordinator to develop support materials and non-academic supports that build students’ academic understanding and skills, college readiness, and social-emotional intelligence. The tutor supports students in the Securing Degrees course at Carlow University’s AJ Palumbo Building. The work culture is collaborative, student-centered, and community-focused. The position is part-time, pays $16.00 per hour, and allows up to 10 work hours per week. The schedule includes Saturdays starting in November, occasional one-on-one tutoring, and time for review and preparation. Hiring is contingent on FBI, child abuse, and criminal background clearances, as well as mandated reporter training. The organization covers the cost of the clearances.
