High School Math Tutor
About The Position
Top Score Education is hiring a part-time High School Math Tutor to provide 1-on-1, 90-minute in-home tutoring to high school students in Washington, DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia. Tutoring includes high school mathematics, including AP Calculus AB and/or BC. Sessions are scheduled after school on weekdays and on weekends. Tutors need flexible evening availability (weekdays, 4–10 PM), weekend availability, and a commitment of at least 8 teaching hours per week. The role involves traveling to students’ homes, with a reliable car and willingness to travel up to 30 minutes required. Travel exceeding 30 minutes is eligible for additional compensation. The tutor will create individualized lesson plans, communicate regularly with students and parents, and work with the Top Score team to track progress and refine tutoring strategies. Top Score offers access to resources, training, and a collaborative network of educators, as well as opportunities to tutor across additional STEM subjects and develop leadership skills. Applicants must be able to pass a background check. Top Score Education is a boutique tutoring and test-preparation company founded in 2004. It serves the DC metro region, Durham, North Carolina, and South Florida, providing personalized tutoring for grades 6–12 and preparation for standardized tests and AP exams. Requirements
- Proven experience teaching or tutoring high school math.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Passion for building positive, supportive relationships with students and families.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, time management, and adherence to processes.
- Excellent communication skills, responsiveness, and commitment to collaborative teamwork.
- Flexible availability for weekday evenings (4–10 PM) and weekends.
- Commitment of at least 8 teaching hours per week.
- Reliable access to a car and willingness to travel up to 30 minutes for in-home sessions.
- Ability to pass a background check.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with both AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC is strongly preferred.
- Current or former high school teachers and graduate students pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in Math are strongly preferred.
- Additional expertise tutoring high school STEM subjects is a plus.
- Advanced degrees or certifications in education or Math fields are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Deliver 90-minute private, in-home tutoring sessions in high school math, including AP Calculus AB and/or BC, in homes around the DMV.
- Create customized lesson plans addressing individual student needs and learning goals.
- Maintain consistent, positive communication with parents and students to build trust and rapport.
- Collaborate with the Top Score team to track student progress and refine tutoring strategies.
