This role is for a Scheduling Specialist at St. Vincent Medical Center Medical Office Building 1.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Experience with data entry (preferred)
  • Typing (45-50) WPM (preferred)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in business, Healthcare, or related field (preferred)
  • Combination of post-secondary education and experience in lieu of degree will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and schedules patient testing or procedures, interacting with physician offices, other healthcare providers, and departments to ensure timely scheduling.
  • Obtains scheduling orders, instructs patients on necessary preparations, and enters data into the hospital computer system.
  • Gathers, updates, and maintains daily records of scheduled patients.
  • Communicates with patients, physicians, precertification, and other appropriate departments regarding scheduling and payer information.
  • Maintains statistical data for the department supervisor to determine scheduling volume, patient types, and procedure numbers.
  • Gathers and interprets complex patient data from physician offices and/or patients for scheduling tests, surgical procedures, and pre-certification.
  • May be responsible for pre-registration of self-scheduled patients.
  • Provides hospital-approved instructions to physician office staff and/or patients regarding test preparation and answers related questions.
  • Enters patient scheduling information into the computer, updates demographic and insurance information, and provides pre-registration forms.
  • Serves as a resource for resolving testing/procedure discrepancies and finding solutions to patient testing and scheduling problems.
  • Obtains approval for non-routine appointment scheduling from designated contract or supervisor.
  • Checks for medical necessity for patients at the time of scheduling.
  • Works with departments to schedule stat patients and coordinates scheduling with multiple facilities or departments.
  • Compiles and prepares statistical data as requested.
  • Performs other assigned duties such as filing, photocopying, and relaying data.
  • Promotes a strong customer focus and handles all calls with professionalism.
