About The Position

The Scheduler schedules patient testing, procedures, and admissions while ensuring accurate patient and insurance information is obtained and entered into scheduling or registration systems. The role obtains required pre-certification or authorization numbers and serves as a point of contact for incoming calls related to scheduling services. The PRN Scheduler obtains authorizations for Outpatient Services and trains with the Imaging Scheduling and Surgical teams.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; three years of directly related experience may substitute for the required education.
• Computer experience required.

Nice To Haves

• Prior scheduling experience in a healthcare environment is strongly preferred.
• Medical terminology, billing, and/or collections experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Schedule patients for ancillary, surgical, and medical testing, procedures, and admissions, ensuring appropriate personnel and resources are available.
• Obtain physician orders and required authorization or pre-certification, and enter outpatient procedures into the Order Entry System.
• Obtain and accurately enter patient insurance information into scheduling or registration systems.
• Ensure consistency between scheduling and admissions modules for patients being admitted for services.
• Notify patients or physician office staff about out-of-network carriers or other issues that may affect insurance benefits.
• Communicate special instructions, testing requirements, and other pertinent information to patients or physician office staff.
• Monitor scheduling reports for upcoming services to ensure registration staff are informed and appropriate staff and time are available.
• Answer incoming calls related to scheduling and patient services.
