About The Position

The Scheduler/Dispatcher is responsible for developing transportation schedules within District guidelines, providing dispatch as necessary, and directing drivers as assigned. This role involves managing transportation needs, coordinating with staff, drivers, and parents, and ensuring efficient route coverage.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Possession of a valid school bus driver certificate
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative
  • Ability to work effectively and react with sound judgment under stress and in emergency situations
  • Ability to organize and prepare reports
  • Ability to perform computer work, including data entry and computations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with school and district staff, drivers, and parents
  • Ability to coordinate a variety of transportation needs and assignments simultaneously in a clear and concise manner

  • Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
  • Assembly Bill (AB2534) and Senate Bill (SB848), mandates all certificated and classified applicants provide a complete and accurate list of every school district, county office of education, charter school, and/or state special school (Local Educational Agencies (LEA)) where the applicant has previously worked, regardless of the length of service, including full-time, part-time and substitute employment.
  • If multiple LEAs are within the same district, only the district information is required.
  • Failure to disclose any previous educational employment and/or providing false information in a job application may result in the disqualification of your application.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares route schedules, makes corrections, and distributes information to staff, schools, and the public per District timelines.
  • Prepares pupil count information and maintains an accounting of schedule changes and bus stops.
  • Dispatches and directs drivers, assigns substitute drivers, and monitors their activities.
  • Makes special education and other program changes daily as needed.
  • Conducts in-service training for drivers and monitors.
  • Keeps records and prepares required reports.
  • Communicates information between parents, school and district staff, and drivers.
  • Ensures route coverage and changes are communicated clearly and timely to all affected staff members and stakeholders.
  • Drives a school bus route as needed.
  • Evaluates staff as assigned.
  • Models personal and professional values of equity, integrity, caring, collaboration, personal and collective accountability.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
