About The Position

The Scale Operator monitors and records waste volumes entering the post-collection site and collects applicable usage fees from customers. The role involves assessing incoming materials for billing and acceptance, processing payments and receipts, maintaining accurate records, and coordinating the handling of special loads. The position also includes answering calls, maintaining a clean work area, and following safety policies. The work is generally performed in an office setting using standard office equipment; travel may be required as the position requires.

Requirements

Experience in a position involving cash handling and balancing cash and/or receipts.
Experience using computers and various software programs.
Microsoft Office experience.
Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
Ability to work effectively and efficiently within a team.
Ability to complete projects and assignments with minimal direction from leadership.
Ability to lift 20–25 pounds, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.

Nice To Haves

Customer service experience.
Experience in the solid waste industry.

Responsibilities

Determine the content of materials entering the facility for customer billing.
Accept or reject waste loads based on content and suggest alternatives based on special-waste requirements, waste type, and local market training.
Receive customer payments and provide receipts.
Balance daily receipts, maintain accurate records and billing, and deposit receipts in the safe depository.
Document incoming waste using truck scales and computer systems, and track the total amount entering the facility.
Notify operations about special waste or other special incoming loads; direct or dispatch as needed, process required paperwork, and complete other duties needed to process special loads.
Answer telephone calls and provide general information.
Maintain cleanliness of the work area.
Follow and comply with safety policies.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
