About The Position

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs, is hiring a Scale Clerk at its Canton, Ohio location. The Scale Clerk weighs inbound and outbound vehicles, inspects loose loads, directs vehicles to appropriate unloading areas, and assists with purchase details. The role supports safe and efficient yard operations, material quality and inventory processes, transportation coordination, and customer service.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Basic math and data entry skills.
Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple tasks at once.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to follow oral and written communication.
Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
Ability to work in an environment routinely exposed to dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate, and changes in weather.
Pre-employment background check, physical, and hair drug screen required.

Nice To Haves

Experience in the scrap industry.
Computer experience with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

Weigh inbound and outbound vehicles.
Inspect loose loads and direct vehicles to the appropriate unloading areas.
Assist with purchase details.
Maintain a safe, organized work environment through PPE compliance, hazard prevention, and site upkeep.
Inspect and grade inbound and outbound materials and ensure their quality.
Manage inventory transactions, material coding, and accurate recordkeeping.
Operate and maintain equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, and processing machinery.
Coordinate transportation activities, including shipments, pickups, deliveries, and related documentation.
Train and support team members while promoting efficient daily operations.
Assist customers and drivers with materials, pricing, and procedures.
Communicate and collaborate with customers, carriers, management, and yard personnel while monitoring local market conditions.
