The Saw Operator is responsible for the safe operation of an automatic vertical band saw. This role involves cutting steel stock to the correct length and measurements. The position is located at Modular Mission Critical™, M.C. Dean’s manufacturing campus for datacenters and critical infrastructure, located north of Richmond, VA. Requirements

  • Must be able to work 2nd shift hours.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
  • Experience using a band saw.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule, and review work.
  • Ability to effectively and safely operate a variety of assigned tools and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, shop drawings, sketches and work orders.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently with little direction.
  • Ability to meet schedules and time lines.
  • Ability to maintain routine records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 75 pounds.
  • Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases.
  • 1+ years of experience using a band saw.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials.
  • Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions.
  • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets basic blueprints.
  • Completes daily stock inventory reports.
  • Maintains proper inventory levels of materials.
  • Unloads raw materials from semi-trucks and stores material.
  • Uses iron working for punching as appropriate.
  • Maintains equipment and ensures work area is clean and safe at all times.
  • Performs basic preventative maintenance on saw equipment.
  • Assures compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, State and local codes, OSHA regulations and requirements.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Operates forklift.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of trade tools, equipment, materials, tape measure, methods and techniques used in safe band saw operation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.
