About The Position

The Saw Operator ensures the safe operation of an automatic vertical band saw and cuts steel stock to specified lengths and measurements. The role includes interpreting basic blueprints, maintaining stock inventory and equipment, handling raw materials, and operating a forklift. The operator follows safety procedures, including Lock-out/Tag-out, and keeps the work area clean and safe. This position requires working second-shift hours. Work involves standing, sitting, walking, using hand tools, and performing physical tasks such as bending, climbing, lifting, and moving materials. Requirements

High school diploma or GED certificate.
At least one year of experience using a band saw.
Ability to work second-shift hours.
Mechanical aptitude.
Knowledge of trade tools, equipment, materials, tape measures, and methods and techniques used in safe band saw operation.
Ability to safely operate assigned tools and equipment, including a forklift.
Ability to interpret blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, and work orders and communicate them to others.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to work independently with little direction.
Ability to prioritize, schedule, and review work, meet schedules and timelines, and maintain routine records.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights up to 75 pounds; the Abilities section also specifies regularly moving objects up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, squat, crawl, climb, reach, kneel, push, pull, and perform repetitive overhead reaching.
Ability to relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance and work at heights up to 60 feet, including climbing and maintaining balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and ladders.
Ability to work around moving machinery and exposure to changes in temperature and humidity, dust, fumes, and gases.

Responsibilities

Safely operate an automatic vertical band saw and cut steel stock to the correct lengths and measurements.
Read and interpret basic blueprints.
Complete daily stock inventory reports and maintain appropriate material inventory levels.
Unload raw materials from semi-trucks and store them.
Use ironworking equipment for punching when appropriate.
Maintain saw equipment and perform basic preventative maintenance.
Keep the equipment and work area clean and safe.
Follow applicable safety practices and procedures, federal, state, and local codes, and OSHA regulations and requirements.
Follow Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.
Operate a forklift.
Prioritize, schedule, and review work; meet schedules and timelines.
Maintain routine records and contribute to team efforts by completing related work.
