About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network, aiming to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. We are seeking an experienced Test Hardware Development Engineer to architect innovative test infrastructure for Amazon Leo's satellite level test systems. This role involves bridging hardware and systems engineering with hands-on lab and test development. You will lead the design, build, and deployment of test hardware for satellite integration, contribute to infrastructure planning, and support ground systems including RF, networking, mechanical interfaces, and electrical systems. The ideal candidate has a strong electrical engineering foundation, is comfortable in lab environments, and can collaborate across teams to scale test operations in a fast-paced development and production setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of professional experience in hardware or systems development roles in aerospace, automotive, or high-reliability electronics environments
  • Strong understanding of electrical and systems test fundamentals, signal integrity, and test instrumentation
  • Hands-on experience with lab setup, test rack integration, and support of large systems
  • Proficiency with Ubuntu/Linux system configuration, netplan, and basic scripting (Python or equivalent)
  • Working knowledge of RF signal chains and components (e.g., attenuators, filters, VNAs)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude for lab assembly and hardware integration
  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs, performing manual lab work, and working on ladders.
  • U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years developing automated test infrastructure for aerospace or satellite systems
  • Familiarity with basic electrical/RF and lab instrumentation: VNA, VSA, Sig Gens, PSU, data acquisition, SCPI, API ctrl via Python, etc.
  • Familiarity with GEVS, SMC-S016, or similar space hardware test standards
  • Experience with integration of high-speed digital interfaces and RF systems in test environments
  • Certification in Network+ or CCNA or similar preferred (not required)
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, or lab documentation tools
  • Experience with LabVIEW, MATLAB, or custom DAQ solutions
  • Experience supporting transition to production and scale-up in manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with Cisco switch configuration (CLI, VLANs, basic routing)

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and implement test rack and bench-top hardware platforms to support satellite integration and test
  • Lead interdisciplinary technical efforts spanning RF, networking, mechanical integration, and test equipment automation
  • Develop, maintain, coordinate electrical ground support & test equipment (i.e. EGSE, etc) for integrated vehicle testing
  • Integrate RF instrumentation, power distribution systems, sensors, and embedded components into test infrastructure
  • Write and execute test procedures, verification plans, and commissioning documentation
  • Collaborate with software and test automation teams to integrate scripting and telemetry into lab infrastructure
  • Support routine validation of satellite systems during development and production campaigns
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and technicians on lab processes and best practices
  • Support and maintain lab infrastructure, including: Ubuntu/Windows systems, Cisco networking equipment and networking automation infrastructure, ethernet/fiber/coax wiring.
