Hardware Test Engineer

Atomic SemiAustin, TX
Onsite

About The Position

Atomic Semi is building a small, fast semiconductor fab, aiming to achieve this with current technology and simplifications by building their own tools for rapid iteration. They are assembling a small team of exceptional, hands-on engineers across various disciplines to own the stack from atoms to architecture, with an optimistic outlook on pushing technology limits. The company believes in building anything, having set up 3D printers, microscopes, e-beam writers, and general fabrication equipment, and inventing what's missing. Atomic was founded by Sam Zeloof, known for making chips in his garage, and Jim Keller, a leader in the semiconductor industry. The Hardware Test Engineer role is a critical interface across all teams at Atomic Semi. This dedicated test and applications role requires a deeply scientific mindset to characterize tools, intuit problems, and diagnose complex failures. Success is measured by building and executing test plans that improve tool design within the first month, autonomously solving complex problems for positioning tools by month three, and scaling impact across multiple teams and systems by month six. The company emphasizes rapid building and testing, often in days or weeks, and generally requires a portfolio to apply.
