About The Position

This position involves operating lab equipment to provide finished product analytics. The role requires collecting hourly samples, including fat, feather, and blood samples, and involves significant physical activity such as climbing, walking throughout the plant, and working at heights. The Sample Runner must be able to read and understand Standard Work Instructions (S.W.I.) and Training within Industry (T.W.I.) principles, work safely, and maintain a clean work environment. The position also emphasizes teamwork, communication, and adherence to Simmons Operating Systems principles.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate lab equipment.
  • Ability to collect various types of samples (system, fat, feather, blood).
  • Upper body and arm strength for climbing vertical ladders.
  • Not afraid of heights.
  • Ability to help in other places of the plant between samples.
  • Computer skills.
  • Penmanship skills.
  • Ability to realize hazards and take precautions.
  • Familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies).
  • Ability to work in a wet, noisy, dusty, humid, hot or cold environment.
  • Ability to walk and stand on feet for more than 10 hours per shift.
  • Ability to climb stairs / fixed and vertical ladders occasionally.
  • Requires occasional bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must wear Hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, safety footwear, and H2S monitor and full face respirator.

Responsibilities

  • Collect hourly samples for each of the 3 systems, 2 fat samples, feather samples, and blood samples.
  • Operate lab equipment to provide finished product analytics.
  • Perform repetitive climbing, including vertical ladders, and pull up own weight.
  • Walk extensively throughout the plant.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Read, understand, and follow all Standard Work Instructions (S.W.I.) and Training within Industry (T.W.I.) utilizing Lean rules and principles.
  • Work safely following all Simmons policies and requirements.
  • Operate all equipment, monitor and maintain production speeds and quality of the finished product.
  • Keep the department clean and uncluttered throughout the shift.
  • Complete all forms in the department.
  • Realize hazards and take precautions.
  • Participate as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and supporting team concepts.
  • Attend appropriate team meetings.
  • Support business objectives by performing other duties as necessary.
