About The Position

This role assists in equipment repair and preventative maintenance procedures within the facility. The Maintenance Tech I is responsible for ensuring equipment operates correctly and efficiently according to production requirements by performing necessary repairs, replacements, and corrections. The position involves consulting with engineers and vendors, accomplishing layout work, and troubleshooting equipment. Adherence to safety regulations and company policies is crucial, as is active participation in team development and collaboration. Familiarity with Simmons Operating Systems, including quality, security, and LEAN principles, is expected, along with a commitment to supporting these systems and communicating any concerns or improvement ideas. The role also includes performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Must have experience or vocational training in welding, electrical or mechanical repair, and refrigeration or hydraulics.
  • Must have a good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Must be able to manually lift or move objects weighing 75-150 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, on feet for the entire shift.
  • Must be able to work in cramped, enclosed, elevated, wet, dirty areas with a noise level above 90 decibels.
  • Ability to pass a fit test, physical, and pulmonary (lung capacity) function test.
  • H2S Monitor and full-face respirator.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for poultry or food processing organization.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs, replaces, corrects or affects equipment as needed to ensure equipment operates correctly and efficiently according to production requirements.
  • Consults with engineers and vendors as needed.
  • Accomplishes layout work for each project as needed.
  • Will be able to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Meets safety requirements in accomplishing responsibilities of this position complying with all policies or regulations set forth by Simmons or various government agencies concerning safety, environment, vehicle, handling of food products, packaging, ingredients and any related items.
  • Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
  • Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
