About The Position

This job consists of collecting hourly samples for each of the 3 systems, 2 fat samples, feather samples and blood samples. It involves repetitive climbing, lots of walking throughout the plant, and requires good communication, computer, and penmanship skills. The role requires upper body and arm strength due to frequently climbing vertical ladders and pulling up one's own weight, and the ability to work at heights. The Sample Runner will also be able to help in other areas of the plant between sample collections. They will read, understand, and follow all Standard Work Instructions (S.W.I.) and Training Within Industry (T.W.I.) utilizing Lean rules and principles. The individual must work safely, following all Simmons policies and requirements, as well as those of various government agencies concerning safety, environment, and vehicles, handling of feed products, packaging, ingredients, and any other related items. The Sample Runner will operate all equipment, monitor and maintain production speeds and quality of the finished product, and keep their department clean and uncluttered throughout their shift. They will accomplish any other related duties as directed by the shift supervisor and complete all forms in the department. This role performs essential position responsibilities with little or no supervision, has the ability to recognize hazards and take precautions, and participates as a member of the Team. This includes participating in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies; coordinating work to ensure B.E.S.T. practices with all team members, and attending appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, the individual fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues, such as direction, annual plan, budget, and policy changes. They accept responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways to achieve synergy within the larger Organization. The Sample Runner is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with these systems and this position’s role in supporting them, including considering the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas. Requirements

  • Ability to operate lab equipment.
  • Ability to collect hourly samples (3 systems, 2 fat, feather, blood).
  • Ability to perform repetitive climbing.
  • Ability to walk extensively throughout the plant.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Good penmanship skills.
  • Upper body and arm strength for climbing vertical ladders and pulling own weight.
  • Not afraid of heights.
  • Ability to work in a wet, noisy, dusty, humid, hot or cold environment.
  • Ability to walk and stand on feet for more than 10 hours per shift.
  • Ability to climb stairs / fixed and vertical ladders occasionally.
  • Requires occasional bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must wear Hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, safety footwear, and H2S monitor and full face respirator.
  • No technical experience required.
  • No industry experience required.

Responsibilities
