About The Position

The Sales Lead supports the Store Manager with daily operations at The Salvation Army San Jose Thrift Store, which supports the Adult Rehabilitation Program. The role helps provide customers and donors with excellent service and a positive experience while maintaining organized, well-merchandised stores and contributing to sales, income, and profitability goals. The Sales Lead may assume responsibility for store operations, staffing, cash handling, security, and safety when the Store Manager and Assistant Manager are absent. The position also supports and mentors program beneficiaries participating in work therapy assignments and may be transferred or relocated to other stores based on business needs.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least one year of previous retail experience.
Pass a background check, including Criminal History and Sex Offender Registry checks.
Ability to communicate effectively with management, store employees, customers, and donors.
Ability to work a flexible schedule to ensure adequate store coverage, including any part-time shift, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously.
Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as carts, racks, fixtures, furniture dollies, platform trucks, and hand trucks.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to perform repetitive-motion tasks.
Demonstrated problem-solving, oral communication, written communication, and teamwork competencies.

Responsibilities

Partner with the Store Manager in daily store operations, including opening and closing, point-of-sale operations, inventory management and rotation, merchandising standards, and donations.
Assume responsibility for day-to-day store operations, including personnel and cash handling, when the Store Manager and/or Assistant Manager is absent, and discuss concerns with the District Sales Manager.
Assist the Store Manager with monitoring and analyzing key performance indicators to drive sales and profitability in line with budgets and goals.
When the Store Manager and Assistant Manager are absent, schedule employees to ensure coverage in the store and donation center; coordinate team meetings; coach, train, and develop employees; and process paperwork, particularly time-and-attendance records.
Promote customer and donor satisfaction through excellent service, community relations, and strategies that improve the customer experience.
Support the Store Manager in helping back-room processors and warehouse associates meet daily processing goals efficiently.
Supervise and support program beneficiaries and report conduct when work therapy assignments are in place at the store.
When the Store Manager and Assistant Manager are absent, protect store currency, inventory, and property, including safe funds, cash-deposit logs, bank deposits, merchandise, equipment, and building security.
Secure the building during non-operating hours by arming the alarm system and following alert protocols.
Establish and maintain safety measures consistent with ARC policy and government regulations; immediately report safety issues and incidents; and assist with mandatory weekly store meetings and their records.
Complete tasks assigned by the District Sales Manager, Command Retail Directors, and Command Administration.
Meet store sales and income budget expectations while managing expenses to maximize profitability.
Create a positive, mentoring environment for beneficiaries in collaboration with program staff and implement effective work therapy assignments.
Be available for transfer or relocation to other stores based on business needs.
