About The Position

The Sales Associate I assists The Salvation Army in operating the thrift store for the Reno Adult Rehabilitation Program. The role includes stocking and preparing merchandise, cleaning and maintaining the store, operating the cash register, completing daily paperwork, and providing courteous customer service. The associate may be responsible for store keys and opening or closing the store, answering and directing telephone calls, and completing other tasks assigned by the Store Manager or Assistant Manager.

Requirements

• Ability to handle cash, make change, and operate a cash register.
• Ability to take instructions and carry them out without direct supervision.
• Ability to build good rapport with customers.
• Strong time-management and multitasking abilities.
• Valid Nevada Class C driver license and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.
• Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or sometimes continuously.
• Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects; reach overhead; operate a telephone and computer; process written, visual, and/or verbal information; and operate basic office equipment and tools.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds non-continuously.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of merchandise preferred.
• Previous retail experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Stock merchandise, clean and rag out goods, operate the cash register, and prepare daily paperwork.
• Be responsible for keys to open and/or close the store.
• Maintain good customer relations and provide prompt, courteous assistance to customers.
• Answer telephone calls courteously and direct callers to the appropriate department.
• Keep the store clean and orderly.
• Perform janitorial duties as assigned by management, including cleaning windows, vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, and cleaning bathrooms.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Store Manager or Assistant Manager.
