About The Position

The Staff Safety team at Mayo Clinic is seeking an experienced professional with a robust background in Safety Management Systems. The team is committed to advancing safety practices throughout the organization and values individuals who are eager to leverage and integrate innovative technologies, including automation and AI, into safety operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate comprehensive experience across diverse environments, such as power plants, chemical laboratories, as well as both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. This role will play a pivotal role in helping to elevate and continually refine safety standards, ensuring a safer and more effective workplace for all staff and patients. The majority of time is spent as a safety consultant and resource in directing activities within portions of the safety program in a customer-focused environment. This role participates in administrative duties as assigned, including budget and resource allocation, and facilitation of staff involved with safety-related projects. The candidate will develop and facilitate the implementation of creative ideas and suggestions to improve systems, processes and service; develop and implement new policies and procedures; develop and implement educational programs; and evaluate established procedures and educational programs for effectiveness. The role requires the ability to develop, conduct, and facilitate safety audits and perform hazard assessments, including the interpretation of results and facilitation of implementation of solutions. The candidate must be able to analyze and interpret data and participate in decisions regarding data validity and conclusions. Strict confidentiality of information must be maintained. Requirements

  • Masters degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or any Masters degree and related coursework within two years of hire.
  • 5 years experience in occupational safety, emergency management or related field, which includes design of independent projects, data analysis and interpretation.
  • Ability to organize and implement procedures/techniques independently.
  • Significant technical knowledge.
  • Understanding of safety regulations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written materials.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to a changing work environment that requires upgrading of skills on a regular basis.
  • Established presentation and training skills.
  • Capable of demonstrating and exhibiting positive customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of PC and ability to use routine computer software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, and databases).
  • A CSP, CIH or CEM certification is required within two years of hire.
