About The Position

The Safety Coordinator designs, develops, and administers safety and environmental training programs to prevent accidents, illnesses, and injuries. This role involves spending 80-90% of time coaching safety with associates on the floor. Responsibilities include coordinating and conducting work area assessments, surveys, and program evaluations to identify hazardous conditions such as noise, chemical exposure, indoor air quality, light levels, confined spaces, and ventilation in paint booths. The coordinator assists departments with specific training needs, conducts safety audits and inspections, and handles new employee orientation, training, and monitoring during the first 90 days. This position also serves as a liaison between MASABA and the work compensation company for accidents, performs accident/near miss investigations, and collects, analyzes, and maintains data for safety and environmental programs. The Safety Coordinator maintains training records, evaluates hazardous conditions to recommend controls and personal protective equipment, and is responsible for daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inspections of equipment and facilities. They assemble data for OSHA and EPA reports and logs, and chair MASABA’s Safety Committee.

Requirements

  • 4 years in safety management, including combination of work experience education and training strongly preferred.
  • Position requires an extensive knowledge of federal, state and local environmental, health, and safety laws and the ability to operate a variety of specialized measuring and monitoring equipment and computer based software programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional and effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, and external entities each of which require cooperative efforts on both sides.
  • Must have excellent problem solving skills.
  • Ability to climb, bend, kneel, crouch or stoop to perform various functions of the position.
  • Ability to lift and/or move 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops and administers safety and environmental training programs to help prevent accidents, illnesses and injuries
  • Spends 80-90% of time working with associates on floor coaching safety
  • Coordinates and conducts work area assessment, surveys, and program evaluations to determine the presence of hazardous conditions, such as noise exposure, chemical exposure, indoor air quality, light levels, confined space, and ventilation in paint booths.
  • Assists departments with specific training needs by locating and scheduling outside training activities
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections
  • New employee orientation/training/monitoring and assessing during the first 90 days of employment
  • Liaison between MASABA and work comp company regarding work comp accidents
  • Performs accident/near miss investigations
  • Collects, analyzes and maintains data essential for effective safety and environmental programs.
  • Maintain training records for all company personnel
  • Evaluates hazardous conditions and recommends engineering controls, administrative controls, and/or personal protective equipment.
  • Responsible for organizing and completion of daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections of all equipment, facilities, etc.
  • Assembles data for maintenance and filing of OSHA and EPA reports and logs, as well as other reports for outside agencies, as may be required.
  • Chair of MASABA’s Safety Committee
  • Requires frequent use of motor vehicle, personal computer, including word processing (Word), spreadsheet programs (Excel), digital camera, telephone, copy machine and fax machine. Specialized equipment includes; audiometric dosimeter/sound level machine, light survey equipment, anemometer and indoor air quality monitor (IAQ).
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
