About The Position

Block by Block employs Ambassadors to help make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities they serve. The Safety Ambassador patrols an assigned zone on foot and/or by bike, assists pedestrians and visitors, observes and reports unwanted or criminal activity, and engages with local businesses. The role requires a positive, professional demeanor and the ability to complete basic reports in English. The position is part-time, scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., with night and weekend availability required.

Requirements

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to walk or traverse, including riding a bike, continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.
• Night and weekend availability is required.

Nice To Haves

• Experience is preferred; training will be provided.
• A valid driver's license is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or by bike to deter unwanted behavior and monitor activity.
• Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.
• Watch for unwanted behavior or criminal activity and report it to local authorities using established communication methods.
• Accurately describe persons, vehicles, and other identifiers when reporting activity.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from people violating low-level quality-of-life rules, such as those involving panhandling, loitering, or disruptive behavior.
• Acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting or smile and provide directions and city information.
• Make a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed.
