About The Position

Under the supervision of the Director of Respiratory Therapy, this role involves operating various types of respiratory care equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory and/or cardiac disease. Qualified individuals may perform the duties of an RRT, including NICU responsibilities as applicable. The position requires a high degree of concentration to ensure patient safety, productivity, and a positive image in an acute care environment. It involves walking, lifting, and manipulating equipment, as well as taking constructive criticism for professional growth. The role may involve exposure to communicable diseases and potentially combative patients.

Requirements

  • Texas State license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • National Board Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist required (Effective 07/18/2017).
  • Appropriate CPR Certification.
  • Requires a high degree of concentration.

  • Accurately analyzes and results blood gas samples.
  • Assist with recording of intake and output.
  • Performs vital signs per protocol- blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations.
  • Connect leads, blood pressure (NIBP) and pulse oximeter. Able to weigh patients standing, bed and/or chair scales
  • Apply ice-pack/warm compress as needed
  • Transfer/transport/ turn patients.
  • Assists nurse by holding patients for nurse to give bath and/or clean patient.
  • Assist with patient transfers, order entry, etc. as needed
  • Helps without being asked to get patients to the room for triage.
  • Consistently helps take care of patients for quick patient turn around and great customer service.
  • Readily collects and labels blood specimens in the presence of the patient and delivers to the lab in a timely manner. Assists in taking urine and stool samples to the lab.
  • Accurately performs glucometer testing and cleans machine after use.
  • Assures glucometer controls are run when appropriate.
  • Making shift assignments, and delegate as necessary.
  • Low-census or sending home early as needed. As well as calling for additional staffing as necessary.
  • Over seeing daily activity of the staff on your shift (including EKG techs)
  • Assists Director with merit evaluations as well as disciplinary problem documentation
  • Supports staff as well as other departments with any problems or issues that arise and report to director when necessary.
  • Round monthly with co-workers and report to director
  • Oversee maintenance of ABG machines.
  • Assists with planning, coordination and supervision of the activities of technical staff during the assigned shift.

Responsibilities

  • Determines the acid-base balance efficiency of ventilation and metabolism of the respiratory system.

  • Sets up, operates, and monitors ventilators for patients unable to maintain adequate spontaneous ventilation.

  • Performs, processes, and reports EKGs in HeartStation.
  • Records pertinent information of treatments and patient response in the HIM system.
