About The Position

Piedmont Eastside is seeking a PRN Registered Respiratory Therapist to join their team for night shifts. This role involves providing quality, patient-centered care in the Respiratory Department. The ideal candidate will share the common goal of making a positive difference in every life touched. The department utilizes Respiratory Driven Protocols for ICU and acute care, with opportunities for RTs to intubate and insert A-lines after competency completion. They work in various units including adult cardiac care (ICU), medical/surgical ICU, progressive care unit (PCU), and acute care floors. The facility has a Women's Center with a Level 3 NICU, where RTs attend deliveries and care for NICU babies requiring respiratory support. The department also manages a pulmonary function lab for outpatient and inpatient PFTs, performs inpatient EKGs, and manages various ventilators and respiratory support devices. There are opportunities for cross-training in EEGs, PFTs, and NICU, as well as participation in professional development opportunities. The team consists of approximately 50 members, including leadership. Staffing levels typically range from 6-7 people per shift, varying with census and acuity. The department also covers a South Campus with an ED, behavioral health unit, and acute care rehab, with one RT per shift for that campus. Shadowing opportunities are available.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy Sciences
  • Previous Working Experience in Neonatal Respiratory care, or successful completion of department specific orientation including skills validation of competencies for the duties and responsibilities of this level.
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care and licensed by the State Board of Medical Examiners
  • Current certifications in BCLS, ACLS, and NRP.
  • Must be actively practicing and maintaining all required competencies in both adult and neonatal areas.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient assessments, general and critical care respiratory care procedures, respiratory care for newborns in Labor and Delivery, blood gas analysis and interpretation, maintenance and management of equipment and patient and family education in both adult and neonatal areas.
