About The Position

The Route Driver represents Spee Dee Delivery while delivering and picking up freight from customers and shippers. The role involves operating a company vehicle, handling and verifying freight, collecting payments for certain deliveries, and notifying management of problems or discrepancies. Drivers are expected to maintain a professional appearance and keep the vehicle clean. The schedule is Monday through Friday, starting at 7:30 AM and continuing until the route is complete. An estimated 10–15 hours of overtime may be expected each week; voluntary weekend overtime may be available as needed. Overtime is paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week. Starting pay is $21.00–$26.25 per hour, based on experience and other relevant qualifications and factors.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record that meets company standards.
Be able to operate a manual transmission or be willing to learn.
Have good customer service skills and the ability to work independently.
Be able to pass a DOT physical exam.
Be able to bend, lift, twist, climb stairs, and move freight on and off the company vehicle.
Be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
Be able to work with freight that may include hazardous materials, perishable food, alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals.
Pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Deliver and pick up freight from customers and shippers in a timely manner.
Inspect the vehicle and report mechanical problems.
Load the truck in an organized manner to use space effectively and prevent package damage.
