Roll Bender/Machine Operator

Albina Co. Inc.•Tualatin, OR

About The Position

The Roll Bender/Machine Operator sets up and operates roll bending machines to produce parts to specified radii, dimensions, and tolerances. The role involves interpreting engineering drawings, work orders, and CNC programs; performing geometric shop calculations; selecting appropriate tooling; handling materials; and bending and pre-bending metal into uniform forms. Operators inspect finished parts and may also perform tack welding, fit-up, or basic equipment maintenance as required. This is a physically demanding swing-shift position requiring repeated lifting and prolonged standing. Applicants must complete a drug test.

Requirements

  • Understand metal properties, including those of carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloys, as well as springback and machine mechanics.
  • Use a calculator to determine geometric dimensions precisely for machine setup and to avoid scrap material.
  • Adhere strictly to shop safety protocols and wear steel-toe boots and eye protection while working around heavy rotating machinery.
  • Perform basic GMAW (MIG) welding for machine setups as required.
  • Lift 50 pounds repeatedly and stand for four hours at a time.
  • Read, write, and speak English to complete paperwork and communicate with coworkers.
  • Pass a drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Forklift and loading experience are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate roll bending machines to meet specified radii, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Perform shop math calculations involving radius, diameter, chord, rise, arc length, and bend angles.
  • Identify and select tooling for different material shapes, sizes, and bending requirements.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, work orders, and CNC programs to achieve required diameters, radii, and tolerances.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and material-handling equipment when qualified.
  • Perform edge pre-bending and continuous rolling to form uniform shells, tanks, or pipes with minimal flat spots.
  • Measure finished parts with tape measures, calipers, and template gauges to verify roundness and surface integrity.
  • Perform tack welding, fit-up, or basic equipment maintenance as shop requirements dictate.
  • Maintain accurate production paperwork and follow established quality and safety procedures.
