Rocket Propulsion System and Plume Flowfield Modeling Support

Radiance Technologies•Beavercreek, OH

About The Position

Radiance Technologies is seeking support for the execution and analysis of rocket-based propulsion system designs and their associated exhaust plume characteristics. The work supports the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The work location may be at NASIC, Radiance facilities, or a combination of both. The role uses Joint Army-Navy-NASA-Air Force (JANNAF) community-standard software and in-house analysis tools to develop inputs and model rocket propulsion performance metrics for identified target systems. The resulting solutions are also used to initialize exhaust plume flowfield and radiometric signature predictions. Modeling studies include establishing benchmark cases, running the appropriate modeling tools, validating results against available measurements, and preparing technical reports and briefings for team members, customers, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience with infrared sensor data, including sensor characterization, data analysis, sensor modeling, and/or algorithm development.
  • Knowledge of rocket combustion and propulsion system characteristics.
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and radiation transport fundamentals.
  • Knowledge and experience in infrared sensor data collection and processing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or another related technical field.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Proficiency with engineering codes, including Matlab, Python, and/or IDL.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Strong technical writing and oral communication skills.
  • Sharp technical curiosity.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with intelligence community and/or DoD classified sensor data.
  • Experience with the JANNAF propulsion-related software suite.
  • Experience modeling hypersonic flows.
  • Understanding of PIR exploitation software such as Palette or Purveyor.

Responsibilities
