About The Position

The primary purpose of the RN position is to provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by licensed practical nurses and nursing assistants. The role includes organizing and assigning work during the shift, implementing facility policies and procedures, coordinating nursing services with other resident services, and participating in quality assurance and regulatory surveys. The RN also helps maintain resident discharge plans, admits, transfers, and discharges residents as required, and personally places and receives calls to and from physicians.

Responsibilities

Organize and assign shift duties so the workload is evenly distributed according to nursing personnel qualifications, facility size, and physical layout.
Periodically review department policies, procedures, and job descriptions and recommend revisions.
Implement established policies and procedures and ensure assigned nursing personnel comply with them.
Meet with assigned nursing staff and support personnel to plan services, programs, and activities for the shift.
Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure individual resident care plans are followed.
Participate in developing, maintaining, and implementing the facility’s quality assurance program.
Request conferences with the Director of Nursing as needed regarding resident, personnel, and facility matters.
Participate in facility surveys conducted by authorized regulatory agencies as requested.
Periodically review residents’ written discharge plans and participate in updating them as required.
Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
Personally place and receive calls to and from physicians.
