The RN works in the 8-bed Medical/Surgical Adult ICU (AICU) at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children. The AICU is the campus’s only adult critical care unit and treats primarily critically ill medical patients, as well as Antepartum, Postpartum, GYN Oncology, GYN, ENT, and other adult patients requiring intensive monitoring. The role includes caring for critical situations such as hemorrhage, critical OB, CRRT, ventilators, and titrated drips. Four beds are equipped for fetal monitoring of critical Antepartum patients, monitored by an L&D RN on campus. AICU RNs respond to all Rapid Responses and Code Blue situations for the adult patient population at the Women & Children campus and work closely with healthcare providers to provide excellent, compassionate care. Orientation involves working with experienced staff and typically lasts 6–12 weeks, depending on experience. Staff can participate in Shared Governance, Clinical Ladder programs, and continuing education offered online and at Corporate University.
