Piedmont Walton invites nursing students graduating in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 to an Open House/Interview Day on Wednesday, November 18. The event includes an educational presentation about the PHC Transition to Practice Program, a question-and-answer session with hospital leaders, and onsite interviews with Med-Surg and Emergency Department leaders. Applicants should RSVP by completing an application; event details will be provided after receipt. The 12-month Nurse Residency program supports the transition from student to professional nurse through education, mentorship, and peer support. It prepares new graduate nurses with the knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed to continuously improve quality and safety at the point of care. The program combines a precepted orientation led by dedicated preceptors with blended learning experiences. Residents develop clinical judgment to recognize changes in patient condition and urgency, build communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and support patients, take part in cohort experiences that encourage peer and professional socialization, and learn didactic content tailored to new graduates by professional nursing organizations. Opportunities are available in Acute Care, Critical Care, Emergency Department, Women’s Services, Cardiovascular/Progressive Care, Surgical Services, Transplant, and other areas. The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle, using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. The nurse works within organizational policies and procedures, demonstrates professional growth and accountability, maintains standards of practice, and coordinates assigned staff’s patient-care activities to provide quality nursing care.
