About The Position

The Float Pool RN Residency Program is a structured, comprehensive 24-month program designed for currently licensed RNs with less than 12 months of nursing experience. This program helps participants develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to meet the standards of practice set by the American Nurses Association and relevant specialty nursing organizations. The program focuses on providing safe, high-quality care across various clinical settings. Over the course of 24 months, participants will engage in a series of experiences and activities aimed at fostering organizational integration, enhancing practice-based learning, and promoting professional growth and development.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree (ADN) with current UTSW experience.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) RN license.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification within 180 days of hire date.
Constant walking, standing, bending, turning, and stooping.
Pushing and pulling heavy objects such as patient beds.
Ability to help lift and turn patients.
Good interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to coordinate necessary information and provide optimal patient care through contact with physicians, residents, fellows, allied health personnel, and other medical and non-medical office personnel.
Telephone skills for contact with patients, referring physicians, pharmaceutical representatives, vendors, and third-party payees.
Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.

Responsibilities

Performs and accurately documents physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments, taking age-specific criteria into consideration.
Anticipates patient's and/or patient's family needs and expectations, utilizing them to develop an appropriate plan of care and employing critical thinking for planning and prioritizing nursing care.
Identifies and implements appropriate nursing interventions based on assessment, documents interventions, and coordinates interdisciplinary plans of care.
Prioritizes nursing interventions based on assessment, identifies changes in patient condition, and takes follow-up action.
Evaluates implemented interventions, modifies care accordingly, and documents interventions and modifications.
Adheres to hospital and/or Department of Nursing policies, procedures, clinical pathways, and nationally accepted standards of nursing practice.
Provides appropriate and timely answers and/or education to patients and/or families, documenting all education provided and assessing understanding.
Welcomes and orients patients and/or families to the unit, encouraging participation in care, reviewing the plan of care, explaining procedures and medications, and making frequent rounds.
Assumes accountability for all actions, reports errors promptly, and provides supervision and direction to unlicensed support personnel and new nurses.
Serves as an advocate for patients and/or families, responds to complaints, and utilizes the chain of command to resolve issues.
Participates in performance improvement activities and attends mandatory meetings and educational sessions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
