About The Position

The RN Neurology Stroke Unit nurse leads, prioritizes, coordinates, and delegates patient care for people with neurological conditions, including brain injuries and strokes. The role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, advocating for a safe environment, monitoring patients and communicating significant events or changes in condition to families and appropriate care team members. Nurses also prevent and treat wounds, follow Joint Commission infection-control and environment-of-care requirements, support continuity and efficiency of care, educate patients and families, and assist colleagues. This is a day-shift position at University Medical Center, part of LCMC Health. NIH training is provided during orientation and is required annually thereafter.

Requirements

Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana, as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
Current ACLS certification.
Complete NIH training during orientation and annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

Prioritize, coordinate, and delegate all care touchpoints for assigned patients.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure appropriate direct patient care.
Maintain and advocate a safe environment for everyone.
Monitor and engage with patients, families, and appropriate care team members about significant events, changes in patient condition, and questions or concerns.
Prevent and treat wounds.
Monitor and execute Joint Commission infection-control and environment-of-care requirements.
Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communications, and an exceptional patient experience.
Consult with a supervisor when unable to complete assignments or perform tasks promptly, effectively, or safely.
Initiate patient and family education using appropriate resources and continuum-of-care services.
Assist other team members without being asked.
