About The Position

Western State Hospital is recruiting an RN II to provide professional nursing coverage for the Admissions Office and serve as a hospital-wide float RN when Admissions Office coverage is not required. The nurse completes admission nursing processes for newly admitted patients; provides age-appropriate psychiatric nursing care; develops and implements individualized nursing care plans; administers medications and treatments; responds to behavioral and medical emergencies; and ensures timely, accurate clinical documentation. The position also provides coverage for the Admissions Office nurse during leave and may be assigned to inpatient units according to staffing and patient-care needs. On an inpatient unit, the RN may perform charge nurse duties, coordinate staff assignments, and communicate significant patient and staffing concerns. The RN serves as a clinical resource and role model, helps orient and train new employees, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, participates in performance improvement, and supports recovery-oriented, trauma-informed care. The position requires flexibility to move between Admissions Office and inpatient assignments. It is based in a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week psychiatric hospital and provides direct care to adults with serious mental health needs in a safe, therapeutic environment. Nursing care is delivered with a multidisciplinary team to help patients improve or maintain physical, mental, and social functioning and transition to less restrictive settings. The role includes care for patients in acute admissions, geriatric, and extended rehabilitation service units.
