About The Position

Our 2 CUB Unit is a fast-paced environment that includes high-acuity patients. Are you looking to increase your knowledge base? Our 2 CUB Unit leadership team fosters an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and building every team member. The 2 CUB (Cardiac Universal Bed Model) Unit cares for a patient population including Cardiac and Vascular patients such as CHF, and immediate post-op heart bypass and valves. The Cardiac Universal Bed model allows care for Telemetry, PCU, ICU and CV patients. Patient ratios vary from 1:4 (Tele), 1:3 (PCU), 1:2 (ICU), to 1:1 (CVICU) for immediate post-op or unstable ICU patients connected to specialized devices. The unit has 20 beds and offers skills leveling, caring for ICU Devices (Impella, IABP, CRRT, EKOS, lumbar drain). This is a magnet hospital with world-renowned surgeons and an active Unit Based Council.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an Accredited Program in nursing.
  • RN license.
  • BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of starting.
  • Minimum of 2 years of strong Cardiac RN experience in ICU or PCU.
  • A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
  • Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
  • Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects.
  • Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
  • Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
  • Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
  • Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
  • Conduct patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, and assessing patient responses.
  • Secure patient travel.
  • Understand patient needs in healthcare.
  • Help patients and prevent issues.
  • Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
  • Create, implement, and evaluate care plans, adjusting plans to reach desired outcomes.
  • Build relationships, manage discomfort, and stay professional in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
  • Create care plans reflecting values to aid in resolving issues.
  • Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
  • Assess and document learning needs regularly.
  • Work with colleagues and the community to create a care plan.
  • Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
  • Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
  • Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
  • Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to growth.
