About The Position

Brookfield Renewable US is seeking 3 seasonal River Stewards for their hydropower dam facility on the Oswego River in Oswego, NY. The primary role of the River Stewards is to ensure public safety for those recreating on or near the Varick Hydropower Dam facility by effectively communicating with the public. This is a seasonal position ending November 28th, with training and orientation provided.

Requirements

• Well-organized and enthusiastic about working with the public.
• Able to effectively communicate in person.
• Capable of performing duties independently as directed by a supervisor.
• Eager to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Able to walk on a variety of surfaces (inclines and unsteady terrain) and stand for extended periods of time in all types of weather conditions.
• Comfortable speaking with the general public and enforcing public safety regulations associated with the Oswego River at the Varick Dam.

Nice To Haves

• General angling knowledge is preferred.
• Live within a reasonable commuting distance to the Oswego River Varick Hydropower Dam facility.
• Background or desire working in the outdoors.
• Ability to work in all types of weather (hot and inclement).
• Ability to commit to a (5) month contract.
• Ability to work days, weekends, & Holidays.
• Ability to remain calm under stressful situations.
• Ability to effectively communicate in all types of situations while maintaining composure.

Responsibilities

• Effectively communicate with the public to ensure the safety of those fishing and enjoying the river.
• Enforce public safety regulations associated with the Oswego River at the Varick Dam.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Perform duties independently as directed by a supervisor.
• Learn specific rules and regulations as related to public safety on the Oswego River.
