About The Position

Apple is seeking a self-motivated, passionate electrical engineer to work as an AMS Design Engineer on a hands-on development team. The team develops custom analog designs on leading-edge technology nodes for Apple products, connecting products to the physical world and optimizing their performance. The role involves transistor-level IC design implementation for Apple Silicon across different technology nodes, from feasibility studies and block design through layout, simulation, integration, testing, and silicon validation. Collaboration across teams is an important part of the work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Strong device physics knowledge as it applies to analog IC design.
  • Track record of delivering silicon IPs, including architecture, design, verification, and validation.
  • Solid understanding or experience with bandgaps, bias circuits, opamps, switched-capacitor circuits, LDOs, low-power oscillators, PLLs, VGAs, feedback, and compensation techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge and analytical understanding of mixed-signal design techniques.
  • Experience with top-level verification methods incorporating block-level schematics and behavioral models.
  • Experience with C, Matlab, VerilogA, or Python modeling.
  • Hands-on experience using spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and signal generators to validate analog designs.
  • Good knowledge of high-precision techniques in the presence of device mismatch.
  • Understanding of data-converter architectures and design trade-offs.
  • Experience working with production test engineers to produce test plans and design-for-testability details.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct transistor-level feasibility studies for analog and mixed-signal circuit blocks.
  • Design circuit blocks and document design simulation and verification for formal design reviews.
  • Drive mask design to implement layout views and lead layout reviews.
  • Run post-layout and top-level simulations to verify top-level integration.
  • Define production and bench-level test plans.
  • Take laboratory measurements to validate performance against specifications.
  • Drive and review yield and laboratory test results to identify and fix bugs.
  • Work with production test engineers on test plans and design-for-testability details.
