About The Position

Itron is hiring a Revenue Specialist to develop, implement, and maintain revenue recognition models for complex customer deployment projects in the Utilities & Energy landscape. The role partners closely with project managers and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure revenue is accurately recognized and reported in accordance with U.S. GAAP and Itron policies. It supports transparent financial insights, informed business decisions, and operational excellence.

The Revenue Specialist reviews customer contracts and performance obligations, maintains project revenue models, updates forecasts, analyzes forecast changes, and prepares monthly revenue and related financial reports. The role also supports internal controls and scalable processes, communicates revenue recognition requirements to cross-functional partners, assists the Revenue Manager with documenting professional judgments, oversees customer invoicing, performs balance sheet reconciliations, maintains accurate financial records, and builds collaborative stakeholder relationships.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with a strong emphasis in accounting.
• At least 1 year of experience with revenue recognition accounting principles and related pronouncements.
• Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and applying revenue recognition standards to customer contracts.
• Strong analytical skills, including the ability to identify issues independently and propose compliant solutions.
• Accountability, attention to detail, and ability to complete tasks in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including explaining complex accounting concepts to non-finance partners.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, technology-driven organization.

Nice To Haves

• Public accounting experience; Big 4 experience is strongly preferred.
• CPA certification or active pursuit of a CPA designation.
• Experience with Oracle financial systems, including the Oracle Projects module.
• Exposure to project-based accounting environments, particularly in technology, utilities, or energy-related industries.
• Willingness to take on additional responsibilities, contribute innovative ideas, and support continuous process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Review customer contracts to identify performance obligations and contract elements in alignment with revenue recognition standards and Itron policies.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance revenue recognition models for assigned customer deployment projects.
• Partner with project managers and stakeholders to update monthly revenue and cost forecasts.
• Analyze forecast changes to assess revenue recognition impacts and identify risks or opportunities.
• Monitor and prepare monthly revenue, cost, deferred revenue, and unbilled receivable reports.
• Evaluate, design, and implement scalable processes and internal controls to ensure U.S. GAAP compliance and support Itron’s operating model.
• Communicate and educate cross-functional partners on revenue recognition requirements.
• Assist the Revenue Manager in documenting and communicating professional judgments related to revenue recognition.
• Oversee customer invoicing for assigned projects, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and a positive customer experience.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations related to revenue recognition and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate records of assets, liabilities, and other financial transactions in financial systems.
• Build collaborative relationships with project managers, finance partners, and other stakeholders.
