About The Position

The Retail Team Member provides fast, courteous service to guests purchasing souvenirs and other merchandise in Adventureland Park retail locations. The role involves greeting guests, answering product questions, promoting merchandise and sales, completing purchases, and helping maintain organized, well-stocked, clean, and safe retail areas. Team members may work in one or more retail locations, including indoor and outdoor settings, and may operate mobile retail carts when applicable.

This is a seasonal opportunity at Adventureland Park for applicants ages 16–17. The position offers a flexible schedule and opportunities to cross-train and learn skills across departments. The role requires customer service, teamwork, and the ability to perform physical tasks while working in changing weather and retail conditions.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age to comply with Iowa Child Labor Laws.
• No education is required.
• Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Reliable transportation to and from scheduled shifts.
• Ability to comply with uniform policies.
• Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to resolve questions, problems, issues, and concerns positively and professionally.
• Ability to engage positively with guests to promote sales and customer satisfaction.
• Ability to follow direction, multitask, and work both as part of a team and independently.
• Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for most of the workday.
• Ability to frequently stoop, twist, kneel, bend, squat, or reach above the shoulders.
• Ability to safely use a step ladder.
• Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 40 pounds or more.

Nice To Haves

• Previous retail experience is helpful but not required.
• Spanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.
• Previous experience with point-of-sale (POS) technology and PCI compliance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and greet guests as they enter retail locations.
• Initiate conversations with guests and answer questions about merchandise and souvenirs.
• Maintain general knowledge of available merchandise and current sales and promotions.
• Promote sales and increase revenue through techniques such as suggestive selling and upselling.
• Resolve guest concerns promptly and courteously.
• Operate point-of-sale equipment accurately to complete purchases.
• Keep merchandise stocked, organized, and presentable.
• Keep retail locations clean and safe.
• Refold or rehang clothing as needed.
• Assist managers and supervisors with inventory control methods.
• Process and return damaged merchandise in accordance with company policies.
• Operate mobile retail carts when applicable.
• Rotate food and beverage products according to department standards and health code regulations.
• Use a step ladder safely and properly to reach higher shelving.
• Remain alert to possible theft by guests or employees.
• Notify leadership when supplies are running low.
• Report maintenance or safety concerns to a supervisor or manager promptly.
• Perform other duties assigned by leadership.
