About The Position

The Retail Supervisor is responsible for retail employee supervision and the organization of the retail events program at Mox Boarding House. This role provides guidance and oversight throughout the entire lifecycle of a tournament or an event. This includes, but is not limited to, event creation, scheduling, sanctioning, and execution. The Retail Supervisor leads from the front and ensures a positive customer experience that is in line with our company values.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Alcohol Server Permit
  • 2+ years of experience in retail, or a combination of events coordination, tournament organization and in-person customer service positions
  • Must be able to lift at least 50lbs.
  • Understands different games and game types to a level that can be converted to a group event or tournament.
  • Possess a strong desire to grow in depth game rules knowledge and/or advanced event facilitation skills.
  • Driven to create new and interesting events to drive sales and future event attendance
  • Demonstrates a strong desire to continually gain product knowledge on both current and upcoming releases.
  • Has a genuine interest in gaming and creative play.
  • Able to successfully manage several projects at one time, paired with the ability to organize and quickly shift priorities.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in group settings.
  • Demonstrate aptitude for delivering feedback to staff in order to uphold our standards of service.
  • Possess the ability to work outside of normal business hours including weekends, and overtime.
  • Knowledge of Trading Card Games and/or Hobby Gaming.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Level 1 Judge for Magic the Gathering.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the retail management to recruit and maintain a pool of Community Hosts to facilitate all MBH events.
  • Supervises the overall performance of the store’s event program and employee involvement, with a focus on Community hosts.
  • Maintains an advanced level of product knowledge across our core product lines.
  • Provides support and floor coverage for staff who are running events when needed.
  • Collaborates with Store Managers to ensure appropriate staffing or additional coverage for scheduled events.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains event checklists that includes all considerations for an effective event (which will vary by type of event), including reserving, maintaining, and preparing our spaces for the events.
  • Uploads Competitive REL deck lists to MTGTOP8, MTG Goldfish, and all other applicable sites.
  • Compiles and report on both completed and future events that contain key information to management, with the intent of discussing accurate optics of the impact and effectiveness of tournaments and events.
  • If applicable, work within a budget and ensure that the event is held within the established budget set by management.
  • Proactively engage our customer base to better understand the wants of the communities we serve, and to source passionate people and leaders within the community to bolster our Community Host pool.
