About The Position

The Retail Store Tailor delivers high-quality craftsmanship and a great fit for customers through clothing alterations, measurements, fittings, and garment repairs. The role requires strong sewing and alteration skills, attention to detail, reliability, accuracy, efficiency, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. Tailors collaborate with colleagues and uphold company standards while contributing to a positive, professional work environment. The Tailor performs standard alterations according to company guidelines, maintains garment quality, presses finished garments, and keeps the workspace and equipment clean and organized. The role also includes tagging and organizing completed work, monitoring tailoring supplies, assisting with customer consultations and front-of-house tasks, and adapting to changing workloads and scheduling needs. Tailors share techniques with colleagues, help train sales staff on tailoring fundamentals, respond to management feedback, report incidents and safety hazards, and provide tailoring insights that support sales staff and improve customers’ product knowledge and experience. The position may involve voluntarily working across multiple store or site locations and brands.

Ability to work at least 40 hours per week when needed, including any hours the store is in operation.

Responsibilities

Perform standard alterations, including pant hems, waist and seat adjustments, rise and tapering modifications, coat sleeves, side seams, and lower collar adjustments, in accordance with company guidelines.
Maintain an average of 60 minutes of productive alteration work per working hour, allowing for rest and meal periods and non-tailoring tasks as needed.
Ensure garments meet quality standards, including clean finishes, secure stitching, even seams, and removal of loose threads and pins.
Press garments for a clean, crisp finish.
Maintain a clean, organized, efficient workspace and properly store and maintain tools and materials.
Demonstrate proficiency with tailor shop equipment.
Accurately tag and organize completed work for customer pickup.
Monitor tailoring supplies and request replenishment from management as needed.
Support front-of-house activities, including cleaning, restocking merchandise, and assisting customers, as needed.
Participate in customer consultations at management’s direction and offer guidance on alterations and garment fit.
Listen to customer needs and provide personalized solutions.
Adapt to changing workload priorities and scheduling needs as directed by management.
Share tailoring knowledge and techniques with fellow tailors to support consistent quality and skill development.
Assist in training sales staff on marking, fitting, measuring, and pressing techniques.
Seek and respond to constructive feedback from management and promptly communicate concerns or requests.
Report incidents, accidents, or safety hazards to the manager on duty and/or Regional Manager.
Provide sales staff with tailoring insights that enhance product knowledge and customer experience.
Uphold professional appearance and personal care standards.
