About The Position

The Retail Store Tailor delivers high-quality craftsmanship and a precise fit for customers through clothing alterations, measurements, fittings, and garment repairs. The role requires attention to detail, strong sewing and alteration abilities, reliability, accuracy, efficiency, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. The Tailor works collaboratively with colleagues and upholds company standards while contributing to a positive, professional environment. The Tailor performs standard alterations in line with company guidelines, maintains quality and productivity standards, presses garments, keeps the workspace and equipment organized and maintained, and prepares completed garments for customer pickup. The role also supports customer service and store operations, shares tailoring knowledge, assists with staff training, and communicates feedback, concerns, incidents, and safety hazards to management. The position requires at least 20 hours per week when needed, including any days and hours the store is in operation. There may be an opportunity to work voluntarily across multiple store or site locations and brands.

Requirements

Ability to operate small tools and equipment precisely, including needles, scissors, sewing machines, and presses.
Ability to understand, follow, and execute detailed instructions.
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
Strong attention to detail to ensure garments meet quality standards.
Excellent time-management skills to complete alterations efficiently within designated timeframes.
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
Ability to read, count, and write to complete required documentation accurately.
Physical ability to bend, squat, lift arms overhead, and use ladders to access merchandise and supplies stored above shoulder level.
Ability to work at least 20 hours per week when needed, including any days and hours the store is in operation.

Responsibilities

Perform standard garment alterations, including pant hems, waist and seat adjustments, rise and tapering modifications, coat sleeves, side seams, and lower collar adjustments, in accordance with company guidelines.
Maintain an average of 60 minutes of productive alteration work per working hour, allowing for appropriate rest and meal periods and time for non-tailoring tasks as needed.
Ensure garments meet quality standards, including clean finishes, secure stitching, even seams, and removal of loose threads and pins.
Press garments to achieve a clean, crisp finish.
Maintain a clean, organized, efficient workspace and properly store and maintain tools and materials.
Demonstrate proficiency with tailor shop equipment.
Accurately tag and organize completed work so garments are ready for customer pickup.
Monitor tailoring supplies and request replenishment from management as needed.
Support front-of-house activities as needed, including cleaning, restocking merchandise, and assisting customers.
Participate in customer consultations at management's direction and provide guidance and recommendations on alterations and garment fit.
Listen to customer needs and offer personalized solutions to deliver a strong customer experience.
Adapt to changing workload priorities and scheduling needs as directed by management.
Share tailoring knowledge and techniques with fellow tailors to support consistent quality and skill development.
Assist in training sales staff in tailoring fundamentals, including marking, fitting, measuring, and pressing.
Seek and respond to constructive feedback from management and communicate concerns or requests promptly.
Report incidents, accidents, and safety hazards to the manager on duty and/or Regional Manager.
Provide sales staff with tailoring insights that support product knowledge and customer experience.
Maintain professional appearance and personal care.
Work at least 20 hours per week when needed, including any days and hours the store is in operation.
