About The Position

The Retail Store Tailor delivers high-quality craftsmanship and a perfect fit for customers through clothing alterations, measurements, fittings, and garment repairs. The role requires attention to detail, strong sewing and alteration abilities, reliability, accuracy, efficiency, and a focus on customer satisfaction. The Tailor collaborates with colleagues and upholds company standards to support a positive, professional work environment. The Tailor performs standard garment alterations in accordance with company guidelines, maintains quality and productivity standards, presses garments, and keeps the workspace and equipment clean, organized, and well maintained. The role also includes tagging and organizing completed garments, monitoring supplies, and requesting replenishment as needed. The Tailor supports customer service and store operations by assisting customers and front-of-house activities, participating in consultations when directed by management, and adapting to changing priorities. The role also involves sharing tailoring expertise, helping train sales staff on tailoring fundamentals, responding to feedback, reporting safety concerns, and supporting sales staff with product knowledge. The position requires the ability to work at least 20 hours per week when needed, including any days and hours the store is operating.

Requirements

Ability to operate small tools and equipment, including needles, scissors, sewing machines, and presses, with precision.

Strong attention to detail to ensure garments meet quality standards.
Excellent time management skills to complete alterations efficiently within designated timeframes.
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
Ability to read, count, and write to complete required documentation accurately.
Ability to bend, squat, lift arms overhead, and use ladders to access merchandise and supplies stored above shoulder level.
Ability to work at least 20 hours per week when needed, including any days and hours the store is in operation.

Responsibilities

Perform standard alterations, including pant hems, waist and seat adjustments, rise and tapering modifications, coat sleeves, side seams, and lower collar adjustments, in line with company guidelines.
Maintain an average of 60 minutes of productive alteration work per working hour, while allowing for appropriate rest and meal periods and non-tailoring tasks as needed.
Ensure garments meet quality standards, including clean finishes, secure stitching, even seams, and removal of loose threads and pins.
Press garments for a clean, crisp finish.
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace and properly store and maintain tools and materials.
Demonstrate proficiency with tailor shop equipment.
Accurately tag and organize completed garments for customer pickup.
Monitor tailoring supplies and request replenishment from management as needed.
Support front-of-house activities, such as cleaning, restocking merchandise, and assisting customers.
Participate in customer consultations at management's direction and provide guidance on alterations and garment fit.
Listen to customer needs and offer personalized solutions.
Adapt to changing workload priorities and scheduling needs as directed by management.
Share tailoring knowledge and techniques with fellow tailors to support consistent quality and skill development.
Assist in training sales staff on marking, fitting, measuring, and pressing techniques.
Seek and respond to constructive feedback and promptly communicate concerns or requests to management.
Report incidents, accidents, or safety hazards to the manager on duty and/or Regional Manager.
Provide tailoring insights to sales staff to enhance product knowledge and the customer experience.
Uphold standards of professional appearance and personal care.
