Retail Field & or Network Technicians
About The Position
MTI is seeking flexible Retail Field and/or Network Technicians for several upcoming projects in 2026. Technicians implement, maintain, upgrade, and repair networks and networked devices, including access points, smart-lock access systems, routers, switches, POS systems, printers, and modems. They set up and troubleshoot connections in varied environments, connect equipment using physical cables or wireless frequencies, and establish adequate signal strength throughout client locations. The role requires travel across various markets, flexible availability, frequent use of hand tools, and the ability to lift 60 pounds or more and climb ladders. All training is provided. The position may suit freelancers, small business owners, college graduates, or students with relevant backgrounds and some weekday availability; MTI may be able to work around other work commitments.
Requirements
- Must be over the age of 18.
- Current driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to a vehicle.
- Previous IT, POS, field, or related technical technician experience.
- Technical aptitude and experience with cabling runs, management, testing, termination, and network provisioning.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of various networking technologies.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with aptitude for customer support.
- Excellent communication skills via phone, text, and email.
- Smartphone mobile device.
- Flexible availability.
- Ability to travel in various markets.
- Ability to lift 60 pounds or more and climb up and down ladders.
- Ability to use a computer and telephone system.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, and reach overhead.
Nice To Haves
- Certifications; they are a plus but not required.
- POS experience.
- Background as a freelancer, small business owner, college graduate, or student.
Responsibilities
- Implement, maintain, upgrade, and repair networks and networked devices.
- Set up and troubleshoot network connections in varied environments using physical cables or wireless frequencies.
- Create adequate wireless signal strength throughout client locations.
- Perform cabling runs, cable management, testing, and termination, as well as network provisioning.
- Test networks and Wi-Fi signals, including heat mapping.
- Install and troubleshoot access points, routers, and switches.
- Travel to project locations in various markets.
- Communicate with customers and team members by phone, text, and email.
- Use hand tools and climb ladders as needed.
