About The Position

Rockland Trust is hiring multiple Retail Banking Interns for Summer 2027 across its retail branch network, with locations in Greater Boston, the South Shore, the North Shore, Central Massachusetts, Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and Southern New Hampshire. Candidates can discuss location preferences during the interview process. This seasonal internship provides hands-on experience working with customers and learning how a community bank supports individuals, families, businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Interns work alongside Tellers, Bankers, and Branch Managers in a branch, participate in the Teller Training Program, support daily branch operations, assist customers, and learn to process financial transactions. The program also includes project work, networking events, training, coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities that introduce interns to possible careers in banking and financial services. The internship lasts 8 to 12 weeks. Interns must be able to work up to 35 hours per week from June through August, with flexible scheduling Monday through Saturday, and travel to branch locations within a reasonable commuting distance as needed. Seasonal employees are eligible for Rockland Trust’s Temporary Employee Benefits Plan, which includes medical insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and more.

Requirements

Have completed at least one year of college and be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university.
Have an interest in gaining professional experience in banking, business, finance, customer service, or a related field.
Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Have a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Be able to deliver friendly, professional customer service.
Be comfortable using computers and technology to support customer needs.
Be able to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
Have strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Have a professional appearance and demeanor.
Be able to work in a branch environment, including periods of standing and continuous customer interaction.
Be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Be able to work up to 35 hours per week from June through August, with flexible scheduling Monday through Saturday.
Be able to travel to branch locations within a reasonable commuting distance, as needed.
Be able to successfully complete required training programs.
Students seeking internship credit must obtain authorization from their college or university before the internship begins.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in customer service, retail, hospitality, campus leadership, cash handling, or another public-facing role is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

Participate in an 8 to 12-week internship program providing hands-on retail banking experience.
Complete Rockland Trust's Teller Training Program and other learning opportunities.
Gain exposure to branch operations while building a professional network.
Welcome customers into the branch and help direct them to the appropriate team member.
Provide friendly, professional support in person and over the phone.
Learn to accurately process deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, check cashing, and other financial transactions.
Work alongside banking professionals to understand how banking products and services support customer needs and financial goals.
Provide customers with information and connect them with appropriate banking resources and solutions.
Learn and follow security, privacy, and compliance practices while safeguarding customer information and bank assets.
Collaborate with colleagues and managers to deliver an outstanding customer experience.
Participate in networking events, project work, and career development activities.
Perform other duties and learning assignments as needed.
