About The Position

The Retail Banker performs teller and personal-banker activities under general supervision and in accordance with bank policies and procedures. The role processes client transactions, maintains and balances a cash drawer, answers questions about bank products and services, and sells, cross-sells, and refers products and services. The banker provides a positive client experience by addressing inquiries and concerns directly or routing them to the appropriate department. This position travels to bank offices experiencing teller or personal-banker staffing shortages and works on the teller line as needed. Driving on behalf of the Bank is required, subject to the Bank’s Motor Vehicle Guidelines. The role involves access to confidential client information and requires discretion. Associates must follow bank policies and procedures, meet Banker Standards, and practice SGNNT (smile, greet, name, name, thank you). A six-month commitment to the position is required before an associate may apply internally for another bank position.

Requirements

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience may substitute for the education requirement.
Completion of in-house Personal Banker I training.
Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record; must follow the Bank’s Motor Vehicle Guidelines.
Must be at least 18 years old for coverage under the insurance bond.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and interact positively with clients and fellow associates.
Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures requiring some judgment.
Ability to concentrate while counting cash to avoid mistakes.
Ability to perform basic mathematical computations using business machines and/or computers.
Ability to take initiative and work with little supervision, and to exercise sound and reasonable judgment.
Ability to stand for long periods and print legibly and accurately on forms and records.
Ability to handle repetitive motions, close visual work, some heavy coins, and job-related positions including sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, and squatting.

Responsibilities

Recommend and refer additional bank products and services, maintaining working knowledge of them to answer most client inquiries accurately.
Accept deposits and withdrawals on business, personal, and savings accounts.
Accept checks for cashing or payment and verify endorsements and available funds.
Sell official checks and issue cash advances.
Process deposits from Drop and Go.
Accept consumer, commercial, and other bank loan payments.
Balance the teller drawer as needed and open and close the teller window according to procedures.
Complete Currency Transaction Reports and hold forms as required.
Sell and process new demand and time deposit accounts; prepare account-opening paperwork, order checks and Debit/ATM cards, and provide needed materials.
Research and resolve problems and respond to client inquiries about account status.
Keep informed about changes to bank services and procedures.
Assist in other areas of the Bank during peak business hours when needed.
Travel to and work in offices experiencing teller or personal-banker staffing shortages.
Attend required meetings and complete assigned bank training within established timelines.
Provide additional support to the manager and department colleagues.
Protect confidential client information and adhere to bank policies, procedures, Banker Standards, SGNNT, and Motor Vehicle Guidelines.
