About The Position

Under general supervision and in accordance with Bank policies and procedures, the Retail Banker handles client transactions, including cashing checks, accepting deposits and withdrawals, processing loan payments, and maintaining and balancing a cash drawer. The role answers client questions about Bank products and services, recommends and refers additional services, sells and cross-sells products, and works to provide an excellent client experience by resolving inquiries directly or referring them to the appropriate department. This position travels to and works in offices experiencing Teller or Personal Banker staffing shortages, and requires driving on behalf of the Bank in accordance with its Motor Vehicle Guidelines. The associate has access to confidential client information and must practice discretion. The role also supports the manager and department colleagues, completes required training, and follows Bank policies, procedures, and Banker Standards.

Requirements

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience may substitute for the education requirement.
Completion of in-house Personal Banker I training.
Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record.
Must adhere to the Bank's Motor Vehicle Guidelines.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and interact positively with clients and fellow associates.
Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures requiring some judgment.
Ability to concentrate to avoid cash-counting errors.
Ability to perform basic mathematical computations using business machines and/or computers.
Ability to take initiative and work with little supervision.
Ability to exercise sound and reasonable judgment.
Ability to stand for long periods.
Ability to print legibly and accurately on forms and records.
Must be at least 18 years old for coverage under the insurance bond.
Must maintain discretion when handling confidential client information.
Six-month commitment to the position before applying for other internal Bank positions.

Nice To Haves

Some college.
Sales experience, particularly cross-marketing products and services.
Successful completion of the Bank's in-house training program or another approved training program.
High school education with specialized business training courses and/or three to twelve months of cash-handling experience.

Responsibilities

Recommend and refer Bank services and products, maintaining working knowledge to answer most client inquiries accurately.
Accept deposits and withdrawals from business, personal, and savings accounts.
Accept checks for cashing or payment and verify endorsements and funds.
Sell Official Checks.
Process deposits from Drop and Go.
Accept consumer, commercial, and other Bank loan payments.
Balance the teller drawer as needed.
Open and close the Teller window according to procedures.
Complete Currency Transaction Reports and hold forms as required.
Attend meetings as required.
Issue cash advances.
Sell and process new demand and time deposit accounts.
Prepare paperwork for new accounts, order checks and Debit/ATM cards, and provide materials as needed.
Research and resolve problems and respond to client inquiries about account status.
Keep informed of changes in Bank services and procedures.
Assist in other Bank areas during peak business hours when needed.
Provide additional support to the manager and department colleagues.
Complete assigned and required Bank training within established timelines.
Follow Banker Standards and practice SGNNT (smile, greet, name, name, thank you).
Travel to and work at offices experiencing Teller or Personal Banker staffing shortages.
