About The Position

Consumer Direct Care Network is seeking a compassionate, attentive respite provider to support a nonverbal child with autism in Altoona, Wisconsin. Care takes place in the child’s home and in the community. The provider will incorporate the child’s interests into daily routines and support his engagement, communication, and exploration. He communicates using an AAC device and by physically guiding others to items of interest, so patience and attentiveness to nonverbal cues are important.

The child enjoys machines, tinkering and cause-and-effect activities, music, sensory play, and outdoor activities. Occasional outings, such as visits to a children’s museum or outdoor excursions, are encouraged. The schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the opportunity to provide 12–25 hours per week and potentially build hours through overnights. Pay is $17.66 per hour or $256 per overnight.

If hired by a Member or their Managing Party, that party—not Consumer Direct Care Network—will be the legal employer and will have sole authority to hire or dismiss the Direct Care Worker. Consumer Direct Care Network assists with recruiting.

Requirements

• Pass a caregiver/criminal background check.
• Be authorized to work in the United States.
• Have reliable transportation.
• Be compassionate, patient, understanding, trustworthy, reliable, and consistent.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the child’s safety through active supervision.
• Prepare and assist with feeding.
• Engage the child in sensory, art, physical, and creative activities.
• Support communication using the child’s AAC device and nonverbal cues.
• Accompany the child on occasional outings and assist with activities and safety supervision as needed.
