Requirements

  • Associates Degree and/or one year of supervisory experience in Human Service work or High School diploma with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be 21 years old or older.
  • Autonomy – ability to work without immediate supervision.
  • Interpersonal sensitivity (objective awareness of others, tactful interaction, ease in establishing limits).
  • Reliability and flexibility
  • Insight and the ability to articulate it.
  • Strong background in working with Autism behavioral
  • Strong background in working with Mental Health
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a van (Employees Only).
  • Medication Administration Certification.
  • Crisis intervention training (i.e., nonviolent crisis intervention, positive approach, etc.).
  • CPR, First Aid.
  • Must clear ACT 33, 34 and 73 (criminal clearance).

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment which fosters growth and rehabilitation and facilitates the development of mutual aid/self-help skills among individuals.
  • Providing professional leadership skills to each Residential Advisor, role model AIMED’s mission and core values.
  • Maintaining organized files, policies, and procedures.
  • Recognizing when an individual is in a crisis and utilizing the appropriate psychiatric and medical back up services.
  • Supervision of residential direct care staff.
  • Scheduling and assuring that all shifts are covered.
  • Program site management & supervision including upkeep of the home.
  • Ensuring that ODP regulations, agency policies, residential and fiscal regulations are followed within the residential department.
  • Preparing site for inspection and/or monitoring by County and/or State officials.
  • Preparation of required or requested reports, forms, or correspondence. Directs the preparation and maintenance of such reports as are necessary to carry out functions of the department.
  • Assisting/monitoring/teaching individuals with preparation of daytime activities; encouraging good personal hygiene, and behavior appropriate in their home or apartment.
  • Assisting in the development of each ISP. Staff behavior and interaction with individuals shall be directed towards the attainment of goals set forth within each ISP.
  • Teaching self-medication skills according to ODP regulations, and when appropriate supervising in medication administration.
  • Assisting/monitoring/teaching individuals engaging in daily chores.
  • Assisting/monitoring/teaching individuals as needed in grocery shopping, menu planning, meal preparation and clean up.
  • Meeting with individuals (as needed) on an individual basis to discuss concerns.
  • Assisting/monitoring/teaching individuals in holding house meetings and informal discussion groups with peers.
  • Handling emergency situations appropriately, (according to AIMED and ODP policies). Utilizing crisis interventions when necessary.
  • Performing daily record keeping (i.e., data collection, daily logs).
  • Teaching and being supportive of basic nutrition. Assisting individuals to utilize community resources from nutritional counseling.
  • Teaching relationship building skills.
  • Teaching community integration; assisting individuals in joining community organizations of their choice.
  • Teaching problem solving skills/resolving conflicts.
  • Providing leisure/recreational activities of individual(s) choice, increasing individual’s self initiative in leisure activities.
  • Teaching/monitoring individuals self-management skills (in health and behavior management).
  • Teaching individuals basic first aid, fire safety, emergency skills, and sex education, and/or assisting individual in locating a class (community resource) in the above stated items.
  • Providing opportunities for individuals to have choices, make decisions in daily living and their future goals (i.e., assisting individuals in day-to-day decisions).
  • Assisting in creating natural support for individuals.
  • Assisting individuals in building their self-esteem.
  • Following individual support plan consistently.
  • Conducting and documenting monthly fire drills according to ODP procedures.
  • Reporting any consumer (individual) abuse (physical, emotional, sexual) or act of omission to the Allegheny County adult Abuse line.
  • Attending individual and inter-agency staff meetings related to individuals.
  • Attending required training and completing mandatory ODP annual training.
  • Implementing OSHA regulations.
  • Lifting, snow shoveling and climbing stairs.
  • Available on call 24 hours a day.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
