About The Position

The Resident Attendant assists residents with activities of daily living and other needs according to each resident’s Care Plan. The role also supports residents during meals and activities, responds to call systems and emergencies, maintains documentation, and helps keep the facility safe. Attendants are expected to treat residents with kindness, respect, and dignity while encouraging independence. Night-shift attendants have additional facility responsibilities and may be assigned resident laundry and housekeeping tasks. The position also involves attending requested meetings and in-services, following safety rules, performing other duties assigned by the Director, and being available to work at other times, days, or positions when requested.

Requirements

Exemplary work ethics.
Ability to assist and interact with seniors in a caring, kind, and respectful manner.
Good verbal communication skills.
Ability to speak, read, and write English well enough to understand and be understood by typical residents.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
Ability to move about the facility quickly and physically assist residents daily and during emergencies.

Responsibilities

Assist residents with showering, dressing, personal hygiene, grooming, transfers, escorts, daily reminders, and other activities of daily living according to their Care Plans.
Maintain proper documentation of assistance provided.
Encourage residents to be as independent as possible while providing needed assistance and treating them with kindness, respect, and dignity.
Encourage residents to attend activities and meals.
Deliver meal trays to residents’ rooms when instructed, ensuring proper settings, utensils, condiments, prompt delivery, and meal quality as close as possible to dining-room service.
Serve meals in the dining room, assist residents with routine and arising needs, observe residents during meals, and provide attentive, prompt table service.
Answer the resident call system and respond appropriately to resident needs and emergencies.
Make residents’ beds daily according to assigned rooms of care.
Assist with activities as instructed, especially during evening hours and on weekends.
Watch for situations or occurrences that may pose safety hazards to residents or staff and report them immediately to the Supervisor.
For night shifts, perform additional facility responsibilities and resident laundry and housekeeping tasks as assigned by the Director.
Attend meetings and in-services as requested by the Director.
Perform job duties in accordance with safety rules.
Perform other duties requested by the Director.
Be available to work at other times, days, or positions as requested by the Director.
