Reservoir Engineer

Flywheel Energy•Oklahoma City, OK
•Onsite

About The Position

The Reservoir Engineer owns forecasts, economics, type curves, spacing analysis, development sequencing, and reserves that guide Flywheel Energy’s Eagle Ford development program across Gonzales, Lavaca, Fayette, and DeWitt counties. Working as a hands-on member of the Eagle Ford asset team, the role turns well-performance data into capital-allocation decisions and tracks forecast performance against actual production. The position collaborates with geology, drilling, completions, production operations, reserves, land, finance, and Subsurface Innovation. It builds and maintains forecasts and economic evaluations for the Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk, supports development planning and reserves, evaluates producing-base opportunities, and communicates recommendations to technical peers and leadership. The role is based in Oklahoma City and reports to the Director of Asset Development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, or in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with reservoir engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years of upstream oil and gas engineering experience, including at least 3 years in reservoir engineering.
  • Primary focus on unconventional horizontal shale development.
  • Demonstrated decline-curve analysis, type-curve generation, reserves estimation, and economic evaluation experience.
  • Proficiency with ARIES.

Nice To Haves

  • Eagle Ford, Austin Chalk, or analogous Gulf Coast unconventional experience, including volatile-oil and gas-condensate windows.
  • Rate-transient and pressure-transient analysis experience, such as with whitson+, Harmony, or KAPPA, including DFIT and interference-test interpretation.
  • Experience evaluating spacing, parent-child effects, frac-driven interaction, and refracs with geology and completions.
  • Working data skills in Python or SQL and Spotfire or Power BI, applied to large well and production datasets.
  • Experience integrating workflows with new technologies, including AI.
  • Familiarity with artificial lift and gas lift across the life of an unconventional well.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain type curves for the Lower and Upper Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk across black-oil, volatile-oil, and gas-condensate windows.
  • Define well spacing, stagger and stacking, lateral length, landing zone, and completion design with geology and completions; quantify parent-child and depletion effects by location.
  • Run well, pad, and program economics to high-grade and sequence the drilling inventory for the multi-rig development schedule.
  • Provide forecasts, economics, and risk assessments for AFEs, the annual budget, and the long-range plan.
  • Own decline-curve and rate-transient forecasts for producing wells and undeveloped inventory; book and defend reserves with third-party engineers.
  • Maintain ARIES cases covering forecasts, ownership, pricing, operating costs, and capital, and explain differences between cases.
  • Track actuals against forecasts, type curves, and plan monthly, and explain variances.
  • Set flowback and drawdown strategies for new wells with completions and production operations, and track results against type curves.
  • Conduct post-frac lookbacks with geology and completions using early production and rate-transient diagnostics to identify reservoir performance drivers.
  • Screen refrac, workover, artificial-lift, and infill opportunities on the producing base, and track results against predictions.
  • Integrate PVT, pressure, and surveillance data—including DFITs, gauges, and interference tests—into consistent reservoir models across the oil-to-condensate transition.
  • Use engineering judgment and asset-team data tools, including well-performance models, machine-learning forecasts, and depletion and spacing analytics, to test performance drivers.
  • Keep forecasts, assumptions, and economics current, documented, and accessible to the asset team.
  • Contribute reservoir engineering analysis to acquisition, divestiture, trade, and partner-well evaluations as needed.
  • Serve as the reservoir engineering point of contact for the Eagle Ford development program.
  • Connect the Eagle Ford asset team with Subsurface Innovation, reserves, completions, production operations, land, and finance.
  • Communicate recommendations to technical peers and leadership at well reviews, budget meetings, and planning sessions.
