GOA Reservoir Engineer

Oxy•Madison Heights, VA

About The Position

Oxy’s Gulf of America (GOA) Asset Development organization is seeking a senior-level Reservoir Engineer for one of several current and upcoming openings. The position may be on an integrated asset development team assigned to a producing deepwater field or within the Asset Development Development Excellence organization. The role leads reservoir performance analysis, forecasting, reserves and commercial evaluations that guide investment decisions and grow long-term asset value. The engineer leads reservoir performance analysis and production forecasting for conventional deepwater reservoirs, conducts production surveillance, applies reservoir management practices across the full field-development life cycle, and supports asset forecasts, portfolio submissions, SEC reserves reporting and audits. The role also performs economic and decision analyses, coordinates special projects and ad-hoc business needs, and mentors less-experienced reservoir engineers. Mentoring and participation in peer reviews and peer assists account for approximately 10–25% of work time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • At least 15 years of total oil and gas experience.
  • At least 5 years of Gulf of America reservoir engineering experience, including hands-on reservoir simulation history matching and modelling.
  • Demonstrated expertise in material balance, decline curve analysis, well productivity analysis and reservoir simulation for conventional reservoirs.
  • Strong working knowledge of SEC reserves guidelines and reserves reporting processes.
  • Proficiency in petroleum economics and decision analysis, preferably using PEEP/MOSAIC.
  • Able to work independently, set priorities, organize and carry out a work plan, and remain proactively available to asset teams.
  • Clear and effective communication across disciplines and with all levels of leadership.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate ad-hoc business needs and general reservoir engineering duties with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborative team player in an integrated, multidisciplinary environment, with a commitment to developing others.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related field.
  • Deepwater development experience, such as subsea tiebacks, waterflood or pressure-maintenance projects.
  • Experience supporting third-party reserves audits and acquisition/divestiture evaluations.
  • Experience with industry reservoir simulation, PTA and production analysis software.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or SPEE membership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead reservoir performance analysis and production forecasting for conventional deepwater reservoirs using material balance, decline curve analysis, well productivity analysis and reservoir simulation.
  • Analyze well and reservoir production performance to identify optimization opportunities, risks and recommended actions.
  • Apply reservoir surveillance and management best practices across the full field-development life cycle.
  • Partner with Planning and Asset Teams to review and compile monthly asset forecasts, annual portfolio submissions and SEC reserves, and support third-party reserves audits.
  • Prepare, document and defend reserves estimates in accordance with SEC reserves guidelines.
  • Perform economic evaluations in PEEP/MOSAIC, including forecasting, pricing, cash-flow prediction and financial modelling, to value producing properties and support acquisition/divestiture transactions.
  • Apply decision trees, probabilistic and statistical methods, optimization and portfolio analysis to frame, rank and de-risk investment opportunities.
  • Lead and coordinate special projects and ad-hoc business needs, such as budget comparisons, with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coach and mentor less-experienced reservoir engineers and participate in peer reviews and peer assists.
