About The Position

As an important member of the research team, the Research Services Laboratory Sciences Entry Professional will support and report directly to an Assistant Professor (Alfredo Ornelas, PhD) in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. There is no direct patient care involved in this position, and no supervisory duties associated with this position. This position is located on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Research Services Laboratory Sciences Entry Professional requires bench research and project development. The project topic is: “metabolite mimicry to develop therapeutics against inflammatory bowel disease.” This position is accountable for meeting study-specific goals and timelines, while also performing and assisting with research tasks. This position communicates appropriately and effectively with investigators and other team members, has outstanding customer service skills, and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Bench research on metabolite mimicry to develop therapeutics for inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Perform molecular biology and biochemical assays including qPCR, western blot, ELISA, cell and tissue staining, and cell culture.
  • Independently perform experiments, collect and analyze data, and maintain a complete laboratory notebook.
  • Handle and dissect mice, culture cell lines and primary epithelial cells, and provide animal care as needed.
  • Meet weekly with the PI, prepare project reports, and support manuscript preparation.
  • Stock and maintain equipment and supplies, ensure safety and proper disposal, and assist with regulatory compliance and process improvements.
