About The Position

Dr. Meredith Tennis’ lab focuses on the investigation of early lung cancer development and lung cancer prevention using translational research approaches. Projects include work with in vitro models, in vivo models, and human samples, and often include interdisciplinary collaboration with scientists and clinicians. The preferred candidate will have rodent research experience, molecular and cellular biology research experience, general knowledge of cancer research, and enjoy supporting a team science environment. This position is in a small lab, where research professionals interact directly and often with the PI, have frequent opportunities to work with collaborators, have a high potential for authorship and presentations, and are supported in career development for future goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year professional level research experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Knowledge of electronic ordering systems, hazardous waste management, and lab equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
  • Direct experience with rodent handling, animal handling procedures, and research projects using animal models.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques, including qPCR, cell health assays, and transfections.
  • Experience optimizing or developing protocols.
  • Knowledge of pulmonary or cancer science and related mouse models.
  • Proficiency with Prism software.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions.
  • Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research.
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results.
  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced.
  • Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary.
  • Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information.
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit and related issues.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required.
